Our Workforce Development Program

Our Goal:
Providing hands on experience and developing skills that build a strong foundation to launch a successful career in the Excavation and Utility Industry.

Mentorship Program:

• Designed specifically for local High School students to introduce the Excavation & Utility industry while providing opportunities for students to be introduced to various career paths in the industry.​

Apprenticeship Program:

• Provides High School graduates the opportunity to immerse themselves in Excavation & Utility industry for one to two years that results in a strong foundations of skills and work experience from some of the top industry leaders.  ​

Scholarship & Grant Program

NUCA Scholarships:

• Scholarships awarded will range from $500 - $1000.
• Money will be paid directly to the College or Trade School of the applicant’s choice.

Application Criteria:

• Must be a resident of Tennessee, proof of State ID or Driver’s License required.
• Must be enrolling in, or attending a community college, technical school, or university in Tennessee, copy of acceptance letter required for fund to be released.
• Open to applicants enrolled/enrolling in a construction-related curriculum.
• Must be recommended by High School Vocational Teacher or Shop Teacher in the East TN Region.
• If under age of 18, applicant must have signature of parent or legal guardian on application.
• Application must be received by November 30, 2023, for the first round of awards and by March 29, 2024, for the second round of awards.

 
2023 – 2024 Grant Program
 
NUCA ETN Grant Program:

• Applicable to graduating students going directly into the industry.
• Applicable to individuals currently employed by NUCA East TN Member Company seeking licenses, certifications or training that advances a career in the industry.
• Open year round.
• Applicant must be from the East TN Region or working in the East TN Region.
• Grants will be awarded up to $250.  
• Support is exclusive for certifications, training courses, licensure, work supplies such as hard hat, safety vest, work boots, tools to help with career (approved lists of items will be provided with award).
• Money will be paid directly to applicant in form of Gift Card or applied to course fees.
